Partial remains of the elusive Chichipau fish discovered
now in the hands of Tacoma PD for further study.
Re: Partial remains of the elusive Chichipau fish discovered
Limeyx and I found a handgun & loaded clip along the Cove3 waterfront once. Was in a plastic box, I forget the type, action was rusted. In the words of the officer picking it up "this may have been involved in a crime"...

this one was about 30' from shore in 10' of water. involved in a crime? naaaah.
Re: Partial remains of the elusive Chichipau fish discovered
Ours was about the same, below the seawall west of Cove3. Odd that is was in a plastic power drill box tho.

interesting that they removed the grips.

i was wondering about that too. doesn't seem like the gun was down there long enough for wood grips to rot off. and there wasn't a clip in it either.Blitz wrote:interesting that they removed the grips.

Not surprised about the clip, but the grips are usually taped with duct tape

Re: Partial remains of the elusive Chichipau fish discovered
The fact that it was ditched at diveable depths at a popular site is a rookie mistake all by itself, so I suspect someone got nervous and wanted to get rid of it in a hurry. There are far better ways of doing it... not going into them, just saying.

Re: Partial remains of the elusive Chichipau fish discovered
Grips likely fell off when the grip screws (small with exposed bare mild steel on the threaded shank) rusted through. There's enough rust on the extractor to indicate it was there long enough for that to happen.

why would you duct tape the grip?

Found a POS .25 pistol under the bridge in Bremerton years ago. Pulled the slide back to check/clear the chamber and it broke on me. Turned it over to the Bremerton PD but never heard anything back.
Also heard of a guy who found a pair of Glocks that'd been tossed off the bridge.

Cardiver found a nice Sig Sauer that was fresh enough it didn't have any damage. To date that's the only firearm I've ever seen recovered that wasn't a POS to start with, let alone after it came back out of the water.

the one we found was a Luger. i don't enough about firearms to say whether it was a POS or not...airsix wrote:Cardiver found a nice Sig Sauer that was fresh enough it didn't have any damage. It kind of is. It's a Hi Point C9. They sell for about $150 and are the sort of thing you'd expect to find in evidence lockers and Davey Jones' locker. "Luger" refers to the caliber. It is chambered in "9mm Luger" (or 9x19, or 9mm Parabelum... all the same).spatman wrote:the one we found was a Luger. i don't enough about firearms to say whether it was a POS or not...
It's a cool find. I'm not discounting that. Hopefully the disposer was convicted on other evidence.

thanks for the info, ben. i always thought "luger" was a brand or model, not caliber.airsix wrote:It kind of is. It's a Hi Point C9.
