Online Resources for PNW Divers/ing
Online Resources for PNW Divers/ing
I'm trying to put together a list of online resources that are relevant to Diving/Divers in the PNW. I do NOT want to list:
a. Shops (too much politics);
b. Dive Clubs;
c. Instructor/instruction sites -- UNLESS there is relevant material (for example, Bob's site);
d. Agency sites;
e. Forums; or
f. Sites that aren't kept somewhat current.
Here is what I have so far (and why it is on the list):
http://www.emeralddiving.com -- has interesting info on species for example
http://www.flashcardmachine.com/p/6t7rb5 -- Lynne just introduced me to this site and it is fantastic -- I took the intro test but I won't mention how many I actually got right!
http://www.divenewsnetwork.com -- NW Dive News online
http://www.pnwscuba.com -- Janna's site
http://www.banditocharters.com -- South Sound's boat
http://www.pacadventure.com -- Hood Canal's boat
http://lujacsquest.com -- San Juan Boat
Http://naknekcharters.com -- San Juan Boat
http://www.dairiki.org/tides -- Everybody uses this, right?
http://www.boydski.com -- Some info about local wrecks!
http://www.belowandbeyond.biz -- OK, so it's mine, there are a few good articles!
http://www.scriptkiddie.org/blog/category/diving -- Lamont's site with THE info regarding Rock Bottom and Gas Management
http://www.nwgratefuldiver.com -- Haven't we all gone there at one time or another?
So, that's the start of my list -- what sites would you add that you believe have relevance to PNW diving?

planyourdive.com has some very useful tide and planning tools.

Not sure if this is disqualified under the 'agency' category, but....Peter Guy wrote:...what sites would you add that you believe have relevance to PNW diving?

+1 for PerfectDive and PlanYourDive. Since moving to the PNW full-time a few months ago, I've used both extensively for exploring the area.

Nope, not, don't use that onePeter Guy wrote: http://www.dairiki.org/tides -- Everybody uses this, right?
My site for currents and tides is http://tbone.biol.sc.edu/tide/sites_uswest.html This site does excellent current graphs for just about the whole world but this url will get you the US west coast. Then just pick a tide station and set it to graphic plot. I have found this to be the most accurate and easy to read site for Port Townsend currents and it has never failed me at other sites also. It has a jillion locations you can pick and tons of customization you can do to get from one day to a whole month. Since it has separate graphs for tides and currents instead of overlaying them it's allot easier to use.

Very nice, I would also add plan your dive and the perfect dive. Maybe a good list to sticky?
I do have opinions of my own,,,very strong opinions!,, I just don't allways agree with them.

Does anyone know what has become of seaotter.com? That was a site I used a lot, for dive site descriptions AND for critter ID stuff. It's been down since Peter started this project. I don't know whose site it was. Does anybody know?

Don't forget Vancouver Aquarium's awesome Rockfish ID game:

Note there are two options - 'Learn' and 'Play'. 'Play' is where it gets really interesting!
