San Diego in October?

Post by GreenInlandSea »

My gf and I are planning a vacation to SD in October. Anybody familiar with the diving conditions, charters, shops, etc. down there?

Good time to go. Vis should be 20-30 feet.

Water temps are 55-60 degrees. Very comfortable dry suit or 7mm wetsuit diving. If you like wreck diving, the Yukon and Ruby E are great dives, well within recreational limits.

I dove with Dive Connections. Nice boat, great crew. That was about 3 years ago.

Actually I just found out it won't be until Nov, same deal? Are there any kelp forests in that area?

I am not sure about the kelp. I did a 3 tank dive and our last dive was an old TV tower. There was a lot of bull kelp, but not a forest.

A little cooler at the surface but water should be the same.

Beware of the surge. It was the freakyest thing...100 ft down on the Yukon and water was pushing me around.

It's not set in stone that we'll be doing SD. We'll be based out of the San Jose area and were looking at places to go from there. I would really like to dive the kelp forests, but I'm not sure where they are in CA.

Depending on when you're there...we're holding Dive for the Cure -San Diego on one of the weekends in October. I know it's not the first one...that's tentatively here...but right now working through the protocol with City of SD to reserve site.

Great wreck diving there...and the kelp diving...very cool. Love Garibaldis!!!
