Mine is not a gunnel.

Another "guess" at Tom's would be snake prickleback, although you should be seeing lots of those on night dives at Redondo ...

Hey Tom,

My bet is that yours is a Blackbelly Eelpout.

Ding Ding Ding Ding! At least, I hope that is what it is! It is the first I've seen, though not uncommon from what I'm told.

Yours is indeed a Blackbelly Eelpout, and sadly one of the things that gave it away was the start of a purplish tumor under the eye, typical of this species at Redondo. :(

Shows ya what I know ... I'd have thought that thing in the picture was a northern ronquil.

Anyway, that's not what my eye in #9 is ... and it's the only one unguessed at this point ...

So THAT'S what that pink color is! I've spent a BUNCH of time trying to figure out Tom's shot and, frankly, I didn't have a CLUE!

Great one, Tom! I learned something new! And major kudos to Janna for coming up with the answer! =D>

I'm really stumped on this! The only fish I can think of that I see on night dives at Redondo that I don't normally see during the day there would be Sailfin Sculpin and Blackbelly Eelpout....and neither of those fit. Give us another hint, Bob!

Yikes! Who would have known? #-o Too bad about the tumor... any idea of cause? Nice to know I was right, and thanks for the definite ID!

Don't get too hung up on the night dives part ... I just see them more often then. It's a very common Redondo sighting.

Ding Ding Ding Ding! You are correct! Although that is way too easy, with the painted vertical bar in the eye!

I'll post a new one for the one that accidentally got changed!

Here's the full shot of my Scalyhead Sculpin:

<a href="" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/142/4039 ... 2376_o.jpg" width="500" height="624" alt="Sunrise_1a"></a>

He was nestled inside an old vacant barnacle at Sunrise.

And here's another eye....I believe that it would be # 13:

<a href="" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/182/3992 ... b615_o.jpg" width="100" height="110" alt="Fisheye_1A"></a>

OK... this might be a bit confusing.... but #11 got corrupted and ended up being #12... UNTIL I corrected it just now, so the eye photo of #11 that was included in Janna's correctly guessed painted greenling above is not a painted greenling... #-o Sheesh! My apologies!

So... We'll just ditch 11 all together, and I'll make it:

#14 - should be an easy one!

John is your eye an octo?
Maverick

Diving. . . is an active physical form of meditation. It is so silent- You're like a thought.

SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES. NOT REALLY GOOD FOR
ANYTHING, BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE
STAIRS.

Nope! Sooner or later this game will branch out into invertebrates, but not yet! It's a fish.
