Whidbey Island Critters
Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Crab season is here in a full swing. Swimming out to the tire reef, passing many
traps of various designs thrown in by anxious fishermen up on the seawall ...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Finding six octopuses, octopodes or if you prefer the politically incorrect octopi all on one morning dive
is definitely fun. Unfortunately, the one time when I had three of them in the same frame, was when my
strobe was set for a close up macro and I missed it. But it was fun to watch the antics of the smaller Reds.

Wow, that's so cool. I can't wait to see some of that stuff in person.
Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Jan, the lighting on those shots is absolutely exquisite . . . bringing out the colors and textures of the animals, and making them "Pop" from the background. I just love your pictures . . . you're an artist with a camera.

Jan: You may have it wrong. As intelligent as they are attributed to be, it may be their "Having fun with Jan."

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Wonderful octo shots! And the juvenile wolf eel is too cute for words.
Reds have been pretty elusive this year on the south end, or at least as compared to last year. Last year I found octos hiding in one particular bottle at REdondo on every dive over the course of the spring and summer. None so far this season.

He does look just like a turtle in that bottle! Great fun.
I haven't seen a little red octo anywhere this year. Did Mukilteo the other night, and saw none; that was always a good place to find the little guys.

OMG, Jan, I can't BELIEVE you got such amazing shots of the sea angels! When I've seen them, they've always been very busily flapping away, and they can make surprising speed. These pictures are incredible!

Thank you Lynne, they are hard to get with a point and shoot for all the reasons you are finding out with your camera
In the last few days the moon phase eased up on its tidal influence, but the bridge on the north end of Whidbey
beckoned with its gravitational force - so in spite of leaky suit, I enjoyed five days of diving there.
The promised summer sun didn't materialize while I was diving, the underwater world proved to be more
colorful then the one above ..

Love the wardrobe malfunction shot!
I was surprised to see a YELLOW Irish Lord in Milton Love's new book. I'd never heard of that before, although I've seen RILs dressed in Yellow.

I'd need a 4 wheeler to make that trek!
Nice work on the RIL's I like how the lower one looks like he has stripes.
You must be doing that trek on a hot day like today!

Jan, a compilation of these pages would be one of the most entertaining and educational marine guides to the PNW that could possibly be! I learn SO much from what you post -- and part of the learning is being so seduced and enchanted with the images.

Totally. A big,full-color coffetable book would be awesome!

Let the record show that I have one of Jan's books currently sitting on my coffee table. I was thinking about ordering another as I am ready for more shots such as the ones seen on here.fnerg wrote:Totally. A big,full-color coffetable book would be awesome!
