The ongoing 'Dond Lumpie and Friends Show ...

Post by Grateful Diver »

I can foresee a lot of dives coming up in the near future ... so figure I might as well cache them all in one thread. Went out last night with Scott Lundy. Found a bunch of lumpies, and some other things. I'll post my pics here, and hope Scott posts some of his.

Those of you doing 'Dond dives, feel free to pitch your pics here too ...

On with the show ... first, last night's lumpies ...

Oh, I am SO envious of the Cockerel's dorid!

BTW, I looked up lumpies. The reason the ones you are seeing are all greenish is because they are all females. Females are greenish-gold; males are pink, purple, orange, and other colors. (At least according to Milton Love.)

This is a terrific idea for a thread Bob. It was nice seeing many old faces and quite a few new ones last night at "The Dond." Here's my small contribution of more friends than lumpies.

Image
The sunset was beautiful. This was at the end of dive 2.

Image
The first dive of the day was filled with tiny nudis in the 10-12 fsw range.

Image
Dive 3 was lumpsuckers galore. All of the ones I found were in the kelp and really small.

Image
I love the color of this one.

Image
I am one with the flounder.

Image
The white-lined dironas were so plentiful during the day I was guilted into taking a couple of pics. Kind of like photographing black rockfish.

Image
This was the most cooperative lumpie of the day. Most were tucked under kelp hanging upside down.

Image
I love these little guys and they were everywhere in the shallow cobble substrate.

Image
Of course you can never get enough sailfin sculpin. The eel grass was infested with them but it was impossible to get a good pic.

Image
And finally, I found one hooded nudibranch. The creature I was most hoping to see and he was in horrible location.

On the Thursday mini club dive, I buddied up with Jeremy and we had a couple of great dives.
We didn't find the Lumpies but we did see alot of The Dond critters. Here are a few of the picks I took....
At the beginning of dive two, Renoun came to me with this in his hand. Open the picture to see the tiny Nudibranch!

If you get a glimps of one of these guys, good luck getting a picture! Look for three Dorsal fins and you will see this Pacific Cod Fish!

Ah, You saw one of my big white nudies. :smt064 Fun trying to get a good pic isn't it?

That is a black belly eel pout, pretty common there
Nice find on the Pink. I have never seen one at the Dond.

Missing? What happened? Inquiring minds want to know. It couldn't possibly be anything controversial.

No worries, buddy. I'll be using those short fills tomorrow morning in the eel grass!
I really don't know if they're short fills or not. I'm just assuming! :smt064

I had to get in on the Lumpie show. I love diving to finds these little critters. The most I have seen on one dive is 3, until tonight. We drop in about 9:15 and saw around 12 different Lumpies. I really started losing count :-) We were down for only 48 minutes and had a blast. Here is my favorite shot. These little things are tough to photograph. Happy Lumpie diving you all!

Redondo is always great! I got there too late for lumpies, but it was still a great day. The weather was cold and clear and the water was loaded with the usual suspects. Ron and James it was good to see you guys!

Great shots, as always! I've never seen the critter in your last pic before!
I see that the wolfie has moved.

I had never seen one before either, I think it is a silver spot sculpin.
