I'm actually gonna say that's a pacific staghorn sculpin. The plainfin midshipman has rows of "buttons" all over the place, If you look at the picture, the plainfin midshipman has a bunch on it's operculum, and along it's back. (The ones giving it it's name are actually on it's belly though.) The other clue is that Plainfin Midshipman aren't mottled like that, but staghorns are.

I tend to agree with the staghorn. If you look carefully at the second photo, you can make out the "staghorn" on the operculum. Maybe.

Late to the party, but I agree agree agree - Pacific Staghorn Sculpin. Sure haven't seen a lot of those around lately, so that's a great find!
