Plenty of lumpies down in the bottle field. I was there last night as well ... with Diver_C. Got in around 7 PM. Was using Cheng's new camera ... trying to figure it out before our Maldives trip. Perhaps I'll have time to download some shots later this evening.

It's getting harder for me to dive ... leaking drysuit isn't much fun in January, and I don't have a spare suit to use while it gets fixed. Oh well ... two more weeks I can give it to Wally and hope for the best while I'm off diving warm water. Hopefully it doesn't need a zipper (but I suspect that's the problem). Came out last night wet chest to knees ...

I was wondering what you were focusing on when you were taking pics of that star!
Seeing your pic on the Poacher reminded me that I saw one on eggs last night.....

Seeing your pic on the Poacher reminded me that I saw one in the shallows last night that was posing.

Saw you headed down the steps Bob. It was a wet dive night. I didn't check my neck seal for the second dive so it was wee bit chilly packing everything up!

That XZ-1 is a great camera. I guess the shooter might deserve a little credit as well ;)

Great pics, Bob. I really liked that camera but I have this sickness that makes me buy a new kit every few months.......

Admitting your problem is the first step to recovery smartass. Oh, & I went diving too. I forgot my mask, but used my backup despite my "rule" of no-solo without a backup, and forgot my computer. I learned something though, the camera timestamps can be used as a bottom timer.

Redondo, Thursday around noon.
Not a pic worth keeping, but proof I was there.

Wonderful catch on the eelpout, Bob -- do you know what he was eating?

Love the gunnels, too. I have GOT to get out one of these days and do some more playing with MY new camera!

Not a crab ... Cheng and I looked closely at the pic, and that's a fish tail sticking out of its mouth. Dunno what kind though ... doesn't look like a tubesnout ...

I wasn't sure so I just went with the generic, "Poacher".......

Okay, it was a (not very) educated guess. :dontknow:

What did you see that says "blacktip"?

Thanks!

Here's a pygmy- note the different shape of the head, and no whiskers under the chin, just a single one at the corner of the mouth. If you look at the area between the back of the head and the first dorsal, you'll see that it is actually concave, rather than flat as in the other poachers.

The poacher that looks the most like a blacktip is the bigeye poacher. That one has two whiskers (cirri) at the corner of the mouth, instead of the single 'Fu Manchu' moustache of the blacktip.

Thursday's dive, I really wish that I could have gotten the painted shell in focus as there is a crab in it which I thought made it way cool. I will find it again!
