Had a Fun dive at Redondo today with my buddy Tami.
We went down the big rope to the carousel boat and just before the tire reef we came along a sun star eating a crab.
The bright orange belly of the crab looks like eggs....I think
Can anyone tell me for sure?
Eggs or crab guts?

Hepatopancreas = one of the main digestive organs of crabs. Also called "crab butter". Sort of an olive green to tan color. You don't want to eat it, its where all the contaminants are found (there are always some) the meat is generally pretty clean as its not especially fatty.ORDiver wrote:?CaptnJack wrote:"Guts" aka the hepatopancreas is greenish
Although the eggs above are from a Red rock, I found this describing the body part of a dungeness crab.

Thanks for the info. Now next time I'm cleaning a crab I can say "make sure and get all the hepatopancreas out of there" and sound cool and scientific.CaptnJack wrote:Hepatopancreas = one of the main digestive organs of crabs.
