Here's the full shot of the Sixgill Shark (Eye # 28) that I promised earlier:

That's a beautiful shot John. Amazing. How deep were you and where?

I have two guesses:Huskychemist wrote:Not sure of the number...
Call it Number 30:
Padded Sculpin, Artedius fenestralis
or
Roughspine Sculpin, Triglops macellus

Wow! I'm impressed with both of those guesses. Mostly because I have yet to see either of them. In any event, they are both incorrect!
But...for fear of giving another incorrect hint...you have the correct family. (Cottidae, according to Humann's book...)
And I love the six-gill shot. What that also part of one of your articles about the six-gill? That was a great article.
Thanks for the guesses. Happy Friday.

Thanks! I was in Barkley Sound on the West coast of Vancouver Island, BC. The dive site was a spot called "Shark Alley", for obvious reasons!Sounder wrote:That's a beautiful shot John. Amazing. How deep were you and where?
This shot was taken around 110 - 120 FSW....I'm sorry that I cannot be exact, but my eye was glued to the viewfinder at the time!
We went there specifically to photograph sixgills for an article in ADM, and we saw FOUR sharks during that one dive!

Barkley Sound was already on my short list... now it just got bumped higher.

Hmmmmm......there are a LOT of Sculpins with similiar eyes......I'm reaching the end of my rope on this one!
How about a Spotfin Sculpin? Icelinus tenuis

Also, my last guess for #30 is a Pacific Staghorn Sculpin.
If I'm right, I'm taking zero credit as I made an exhaustive search of.......... "Lowell's Critter Pictures" in order to make this guess.

Or...you are one that utilizes ALL resources to find an answer.
Yep...Pacific Staghorn Sculpin.
And I don't need to show the whole picture, as I think you already posted it for me.

Sigh.....I think that I'll go off into a corner now and throw a petulant frenzy.
