PNW Beauty
Flagpole is really dark right now, we had about 10 feet of viz yesterday.
After a few recent trips with some pretty good chop on the surface, yesterday was a real treat. We had sunny skies, no wind, and glassy surface conditions. As we arrived a the buoy I looked down the line and could see the crud hanging in the water. As we went down the line it didn't get better, just darker. As I looked over the edge into the dark I thought, oh well I guess thats what a compass is for. The bad viz made certain things stand out in my light. There is a nudi hatch going on in the canal that seems to happen each year about this time. The nudis are really tiny, about the size of a pencil eraser. About halfway through our first dive it seemed like we got a little ambient light. I am not sure if we really did get more light or my eyes were just adjusting to the dark.
The surface interval was amazing. There was a fog bank hanging to our south, fog was almost rolling over the cliffs. We had bald eagles out giving us a show, the seals were coming close to check us out. The week before we had an eagle snatch a fish right behind our boat. Everything about this day is why I love diving in the NW.

Truly amazing photos. I love the last one of the orange-and-white-tipped! I hope someday I take photos that nice!
Re: PNW Beauty
Yes, I agree. Your photo skills are totally off the chart.

Wow, incredible photos! I can't decide whether I like the first one or the last one the best, but would you be willing to share the file on the first one? I'd like to frame it and put it up on the wall of my Moses Lake house.

Blackwater, what type of camera setup do you use?

Thank you all for the compliments!
My photo tips would be 1) Get Close, 2) Shoot Up or at least level, 3) Be patient and look for color.
I shoot the Canon S95 with a cheap set of Ikelite Strobes. One of the best tips that I ever received was from Mr. Rawlings. His tip was about learning what your camera was good at, and then shooting those kind of photos. My camera does much better at close up/macro type shots. I envy the big boys that can shoot the big wide angle shots, but the further away from a subject that I shoot the photo just becomes bland and uninteresting.Gdog wrote:Blackwater, what type of camera setup do you use?

Thanks for the compliment, Bric, but you've taken it far beyond my "tip"! Your photos have become truly astonishing and I always love seeing what you post here! They show what a photographer can do by learning more about the equipment that they have instead of trying to make it do what it was never designed for.blackwater wrote:Thank you all for the compliments!

Love the results! I like to see that level of photography with a P&S, it is inspiring. A good photographer gets the best results from the equipment they have access to. Keep them coming!
