Always fashionably late to the party - just ask Scubie. Here's a few pics I managed.Scubie Doo wrote:
Mr. Penders did bring his camera (posting the photos is another story ). On dive 1 we decided to head straight out. We surface swam to the buoy straight out from the entrance and dropped in at about 40'. With viz about 10-15' we decided to head deep to the bottle field. About 4 fins kicks and we spot a medium sized GPO laying out in the open. Darn! No camera, but Penders to the rescue, he proceeded to take several nice shots. At one point he signaled me into the shot like a fashion photographer. Good thing we were underwater or he would have probably said something demeaning to me, like "Move into the shot you stupid idiot!" We spent about 10-15 minutes with the octo, we believe he was digesting something pretty big. The octo finally had enough and decided to move to a nearby tire pile. We proceeded down to about 120' when I saw Penders carrying two glasses in one hand and his camera in the other. As his dive assistant for the day, I signaled that I would carry the glasses. Getting close to deco we headed back. At about 60' we were hit with a strange "waterfall" of gunk, turning viz to about 4-5'. We thought others in the group were kicking up silt. But this water movement was really strong and the current was pushing everything straight back to depth. At about the 45 minute mark we decided to surface due to the poor viz. Unfortunately, seeing the GPO right out of the gate made the second dive uneventful.
Dive #2, walk to the antler house, drop down to 40', max depth 95', poor viz, cold, no bottles, a few cool critters, no camera = Short dive.
The GPO we nearly dropped in on:
A couple Grunt Sculpins:
Alaskan Skeleton Shrimp:
A little octo Scubie found in a shell...
...who came out to play...
...and visit with a neighbor:
There were Ratfish:
And don't forget the baby lumpies:
A sharp-eyed Scubie Doo found this critter - see it?

Awesome photos, I love the free-falling skeleton shrimp. That's a winner for sure.
