What is the squirmy thing?

Post by Diver_C »

Sergeant Pepper, RSDancey & I had a great dive last night at Cove 2. Towards the end of the dive, I came across this thing kind of squirming, waiving around, seemingly trying to catch some food or something. What is it? Thanks!

I would love to see a cropped close-up view of this thing. Do you have any other views/angles.

I actually saw more than one of these on our dive. At first I thought it was something that had burried itself. I noticed that it seemed to be spawning, or what have you, from the top.

Well it kind of looks like one of those new age snorkels. If you look at the left bottom, you can see the mouth piece which is shaped like a clam.

If that is wrong then its a bottle neck off of a "Mad Dog" wine bottle.

Wacky! So you think the clam shell and that thing are connected?? It never occurred to me.

Looks like a Red (aka Orange) Ribbon Worm (Tubulanus polymorphus) or some other kind of worm. I've seen them before at Cove 2 (and other places). You usually just see a portion of them sticking out of the sand.

Nice find and photo!
