This article from the Washington Post is one of the best I've read in a long time (it's lengthy, w/ video).
The premise: What happens when the world's greatest living violinist plays one of the best pieces of classical music ever written on a 300 year old, multi-million dollar Stradivari violin in a Washington DC Metro station during rush hour, posing as a street musician?
Here's the article, enjoy.

Fascinating reading!
I wonder if things would have been different if people had not been rushing to work, not wanting to be late?
Kinda makes me wonder what beautiful things I have walked by in my life....

That was a very cool story. I don't think it would be too much different. Everyone is always rushing to get somewhere.. If it hadn't been rush hour then there would maybe only have been a few people actually going buy.. They wouldn't have stopped either in my opinion. I think most poeple just tune that sort of thing out.. Think about the street muscians we see in Seattle.. Granted most of them are playing the drums and have dread locks not the violin.. But we just pass them buy without a second look.

Awesome... the human condition in a snapshot. But will anyone take time to read the article? ![Boo hoo! :-({|=](./images/smilies/eusa_boohoo.gif)

the problem is that i don't really like classical music or care about violinists, so i skimmed over a lot of it, and probably wouldn't have stopped...
now if roger penrose setup a whiteboard and started lecturing on spin networks and loop quantum gravity i would have noticed, stopped and called in sick to work...
