Presentation of the events surrounding my DCS "Hit"

Post by John Rawlings »

After giving my presentations on my DCS accident at TLSea and the Emerald Seas Dive Club, several folks here on NWDC asked to be notified whenever it was to be given again.

I have been asked to speak at the Puget Sound Depth Chargers Dive Club meeting on Wednesday, May 2nd. Along with the presentation this would be a fine opportunity to meet the members of an extremely active club that you might consider joining.

Their meetings are held in the basement of the Milton Tavern, which is in the "thriving metropolis" of Milton. It is near Fife just off of I-5.

Club members start showing up around 6pm to order food and socialize. The meeting starts at 7:00 PM, with the presentation probably starting around 7:30 PM or so.

I hope to see some of you there!

John - Your presentation is excellent and I'm looking forward to seeing you again on May 2! Thanks for the info!

(Milton Tavern has great food, too.)

Just sos you all know... I have a sneaking suspicion this one is going to be really REALLY crowded. We've been looking forward to John's presentation for months so the 6:00 time frame is probably more like 5:30 if you actually want to sit. I could be wrong... But that's when I am getting there. Can't wait John.. Thanks for doing that for us!

Heck, I was going to tell everybody to show up at 6:30, so there'd be more room for us!

Truthfully, though, all of you above are correct. The Depth Chargers are very active. The food at the tavern is fantastic. And it's always REALLY CROWDED. So get there late...er, I mean early!

I look forward to your presentation, John.

Thanks, folks! At least I know that there will be three friendly faces in the room! I'm looking forward to finally meeting you, Gillyweed, and to seeing both of you again, Jackie and Lowell!

I've addressed this club before a couple of years back with my presentation on the Lake Crescent/Warren search, and I had an absolutely GREAT time. Parts of their meeting resembled a party! :partyman:

The only thing that I'm NOT looking forward to is the drive down to Milton from Mill Creek during "rush hour"! I'll probably spend 3 hours driving just to get there to give a 1 hour presentation! #-o

Well, I can't help you with rush hour.

I often wonder if this is a drinking club with a diving problem or a diving club with a drinking problem...hehehe...

Cool! Do you know where you're going to be at in the Mill Creek area yet?

There are several of us NWDC members in the Mill Creek area - in addition to myself, there is Silentscuba, Scubagrunt and Mattwave to name a few.

Yes, I'll be in a development off 196th and SR-527. It's technically between Bothell and Mill Creek in a little strip of county.

John,

The club is sooooooooo looking forward to having you back for a THIRD time to speak! You are an awesome presenter, and I know we are all anxious to hear about your experience.

As Chief Club Slave for the PSDC, let me extend the invitation to everyone to join us for the club meeting and/or a dive! We are a fun, casual, and informal club (no dues or membership applications). More info can be found at http://www.psdepthchargers.com.

See you there!

Sheesh, I need to remember not to drink while reading these forums. I just spewed Diet Pepsi on the monitor. Thanks Lowell! But, hey--that's a nifty idea! :occasion5: But wait, I never get to sit down at these meetings...

Lowell,

Just remember that thought when you hear Ron Dale's presentation this month about the evolution of the club and how it all started 11 years ago...

Mill creek is the center of the universe. It has 2 of the best restaurants on the planet there.

The Puget Sound is the center of the universe. Everything else pales in comparison to where we dive.. hee hee...

Just wanted to keep posting here and remind everyone that John is speaking TONIGHT! I am still so excited. I think John you should dress up like Santa.. We've been waiting like little kids at Christmas time!

Well, with my white beard I already get accused of looking like Santa on a regular basis!

I do my best to think of it as "Hemingway-esque". #-o

I can't make it tonight, unfortunately. But you guys are in for a great presentation- I attended an earlier version last summer. John speaks with great candor and honesty about something many divers won't talk about.
