Poor Redondo!

Post by Dusty2 »

Once again Redondo has suffered at the hands of a winter storm! The combination of a 14' king tide and winter wind has wreaked havoc on Redondo and the boardwalk. Not having been there I am hoping some of the local divers will update us and maybe send some photos or video so that we can be more aware of the possible damages. I am hoping the MAST center was not damaged to much but I am sure the eelgrass beds took a beating and just when it was beginning to recover from the last big one. The news coverage only showed a 10 second clip and that was just the boardwalk area.

Didn't know any other way to show this vid so just click full screen on the video and watch the storm! This looks even worse than the big Thanksgiving storm! Click in at 1:10 to see what it was doing to the mast center.

Let me know how things look both above and below. Seeing those waves clear up to the bottom of the windows on the mast center is scary.

On the other hand, having the water level that high hopefully reduced the damage to the eel grass beds ...

The ones at Port Townsend have been taking a beating this year. We can hope!

I was amazed to actually see the waves topping the fishing pier and bubbling over the top of the stairs! Looks like they lost a lot of siding from the Mast center and the aquarium. Hope the damages were limited to the outside of the buildings. Sounds like Salty's took a pretty good hit also.

Anyone get a chance to jump in at Redondo and survey the damage underwater?
