Yoke cap

Post by Nwcid »

I bought a used transfill whip not realizing it was Yoke not DIN. Right now to check tank pressures I have to screw in a reg set which can be a pain just to check pressure. I keep looking at stand alone DIN gauges but that is one more thing to keep track of.

What I am wondering is here a cap or plug of some kind that I can block off one side of my Yoke whip so I can use my transfill to check tank pressure? I have tried looking and I have found is the plastic ones to keep water out of a 1st stage and I assume these will not hold up to ~3500 psi.

You'll have to unscrew one end of the fill whip and screw that valve inline with a little bit of teflon tape, but that's the way you do it.... or just leave the transfill whip connected to another tank on the other side with the other tank's valve shut down...

Wow that valve is more expensive then the gauge I was looking at, http://www.divegearexpress.com/gas/cylacc.shtml#775

I was just hoping there was a $5-10 cap that would work so that was one less semi delicate part I have to keep track of.

There are no $5 3500+ psi parts. You could put quick disconnects (QDs) on each end and the gauge to be able to remove the hose from you whip and put just the gauge on the yoke fitting. But QDs are $5 to 12 each and you'd need at least 4.

Sounds like it is just going to be easier to buy the complete unit for under $40.

Tank checker gauges (DIN + a yoke adapter) and intermediate pressure gauges on a BC quick disconnect are two items that should be in everyone's dive kit, anyway.

I just use my DIN-Yoke Adapters. When traveling I found they were mandatory due to lack of DIN cylinders.
