Just was given some images taken in RAW. Instructions with my MS Photo Gallery don't seem to work to convert to JPG to edit/copy/etc.
Recommendations on how? Need a different application?
I don't anticipate doing this very often so I don't want to buy some big application or one that has a steep learning curve. Unless I have to of course.

RAW(.CR2) files to JPEG
The only box you have to think outside of is the one you build around yourself.
Re: RAW(.CR2) files to JPEG
That's Canon RAW.
A great little program that should be able to open them, then save to JPG is [http://www.irfanview.com/]
I had the same issue with Olympus RAW. Irfanview would open them, Photoshop Elements 8 would not. Go figure.

If you want to do some basic image processing before you save to Jpeg you can also download the Canon Zoombrowser software:

You can download a Photoshop plug-in for different formats of RAW from the Adobe web site.fmerkel wrote:That's Canon RAW.

Installing the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack should make MS Photo Gallery able to read these files.

Thanks. I'll download the MS Codec package.

Downloaded the MS Codec. Made the JPEG copies. Smooth and easy.
Thanks again.
Oh yes, we were foxed because the photographer had looked at them on one computer using Canon software. Zoom Browser worked just fine. I just don't have it on my computer. Plus, images need to go to other folks.
