Redondo 8/1

Post by YellowEye »

Tons of divers last night at Redondo. Presumably they were all looking for a sixgill, like me and DLH. I don't think anybody saw a sixgill, but I think a lot of people got to see a nice big octo out in the open by the carousel boat (likely mating, or mated). I only had a macro lens, so didn't get him, but hopefully somebody will post some pics of that beauty.

Here were some of my captures:

The octo above came up in the water column when it encountered the big octo!

Love that first shot! We saw the GPO out, but by then the vis was so bad that most any shot wouldnt turn out.

Awesome photos! I love the captures of the free swimming Octo. I mostly took Video on this dive, and put together a little "Making Of" clip of YellowEye's amazing little octo. I also got a little action video of the big guy alongside the carousel boat.

Making Of: Please pardon the blurry bit in the middle :)

I got home and got a chance to watch the videos. Super cool. It was funny, I didn't even see the large GPO, I was too busy hunting for the six-gill.

Here are a couple of my favorites from last night.

Great shots Jessie! I was hoping you would post some of that stubbie you followed in the water column.

I took some crappy video of the octo with my GoPro too. It died in the middle of filming I believe. If there is anything worth posting, I will put it in this thread. My video is from about 2 minutes before YellowEye and dlh showed up on the scene with their miniature suns that made the area so bright that it seemed like we were diving in 30 ft of water.

Great pics and videos everyone. Yea, I was there that night too, and the vis was not great. Got some decent video of the big GPO near that boat, but havnt had the time to edit anything yet. :(

You must have just gotten unlucky with the vis. It was great when I was at the boat. I guess it wouldn't be the first time Redondo vis changed on a dime (it did so tonight too)...
