Re: Don't try this at home!
that is some hellishly good buoyancy control throwing those tanks back and forth like that...

Re: Don't try this at home!
I saw an octopus do that once...but he didn't have tanks.
Re: Don't try this at home!
This guy is unreal! You should see some of his training and exhibition videos. If they don't turn you on to sidemount nothing will.Jeff Pack wrote:that is some hellishly good buoyancy control throwing those tanks back and forth like that...

A good friend of mine Rob Neto has been helping me abit going sidemount for my Bail Out tanks on my rebreather. Rob teaches sidemount (and trained Bob Bailey as well). If I was to ever go back to bubble blowing, I'd go sidemount.

... and yet there are times when you just need to say "No, that hole is too small to safely pass through." I think it may have helped that he basically had support divers on either side of the hole if something had gone wrong. No diss to S.M., but there are all kinds of things that could have gone wrong with that stunt.
Re: Don't try this at home!
well they say if your head fits, generally the rest of you would too.
Growing up (read in my leaner years) in South Africa I had plenty times have to crawl through our burglar bars when mom locked the keys in the house.. and its amazing through what small spaces you can fit, the only thing that really cant compress is your head.
but doing that in deep wrecks underwater is pretty crazy! This guy is like a freegin underwater Houdini!

Bah. Shallow open water on a prepared wreck. Kid stuff.
How about 63M deep in a cave, solo, on a rebreather?

Pfft! Coming from the guy who said he didn't want to go deeper than 160 ft... One of these days, Jeff, you will feel the cave bug bite!Jeff Pack wrote:and why I'll never be a cave diver...
Re: Don't try this at home!
+1 on that. I watched a video where they were diving a cave and found a dead diver stuck in a crawl hole.Jeff Pack wrote:and why I'll never be a cave diver...
Definitely not on my to do list.
The only thing that would make me crawl through a hole in the ground like that would be knowing that there was a hot babe, a cold beer and the exit on the other side. The crazy part is he will have to do that again to get out!

Re: Don't try this at home!
Two years ago we were diving with XTC in Xcalak. We were going to go into a dome at 80 ft and the lady DM made a big deal out of there being 2 ways out. One wide and one so narrow that, as she put it, we might have to pull our reg hose in to avoid rubbing. Down in the dome they waved us ahead and I saw a wide way to sunshine and a little tunnel with light at the end. Knowing lots had gone before me I fearlessly went through, at one point my tank was rubbing and my belly was in the sand. As I slowly rose out of a chiminy at the end of the tunnel the DM comes storming over the top...and writes a note that says "Wrong way!" On the boat she told us she tried that way once but had to back out. Didn't scare me at all in the tunnel but I get shivers thinking about what might have gone wrong.
Re: Don't try this at home!
There's plenty of non-restrictive cave out there! You'll cave dive one day methinksJeff Pack wrote:Caverns are fun, even caves perhaps, those restrictions make my colon twist...

When you go cave diving, let me know.

Will do! You'll see it on Facebook probably. I am shooting for Cave 1 next yearJeff Pack wrote:When you go cave diving, let me know.
Re: Don't try this at home!
I'm with you on the restrictions but after two cenote dives in February I can hear the siren song of the cave line....... the one that starts past the sign with the skull and crossbones on it........Jeff Pack wrote:Caverns are fun, even caves perhaps, those restrictions make my colon twist...
