ThThTh 12/12

Post by YellowEye »

Hi
ScubieDoo, EJ, KneeDeep, GDog, Hoodsport_Diver, and I joined up for a dive at Redondo tonight.

It's cold in lumpie country!

The squid appeared before I even hit the bottom!

Great diving with you and the ThThTh crowd. I'd never seen Lumpies before, it was very cool

I hope to join again next week.

Yeah, those squid shots are bad ass. This is the second ThThTh dive where I missed something way cool on the initial descent.

Had a great time with all the dive buddies. Enjoyed meeting and diving with Alex. Always love diving with EJ. And really missed Mr. Heater... oh yeah and Jeff. BTW, you don't have to dive to bring Mr. Heater :smt064

Here are a few of my favorite shots. Lots of great critters.

Small wolfie in a bottle at the bottle field (south ramp) at about 75'
Image

Another angle, different lighting on the same wolfie.
Image

Tons of little octos, must have seen 15+
Image

Cool little horned shrimp
Image

Bay Pipefish (related to the seahorse) right next the the above shrimp
Image

Grunt on eggs at Mr. Bailey's rock structure
Image

These were everywhere
Image

Not very exciting, but thought it was a cool shot :-)
Image

Loved the coloring here and the leaf on the back of the crab

As always, you can click on any photo to view the album.

It was great to get back in the water with the Thursday crew. A special thanks to my buddy and designated driver Jesse who, after a few missed turns, got me home safe. We missed you Papa Heater; hope to see you next week.

Nice shots Jesse! Cool shrimp and octo in particular.
Looks like there's a little parasite on the back of your grunt!
Interesting with the brittle stars -- I haven't seen that many brittle stars for a long time!

Thanks Eric. Yeah, I saw that parasite too. I wonder if they do damage or just hang on for a while and leave?

Jeff, I just said you don't have to dive. I would like you to dive. Regardless, Mr. Heater is always welcome. Maybe we should start sending invites to his Facebook.

Nice job George! That little octo is super cute.
The 60mm is a fun lens. For those critters, maybe even a 100 would work!

Yes very nice, good detail on the lumpie too. I have the 100mm. It can be a challenge at times, but when you get the shot, it's nice.

I think first adding a second strobe is next, then the lens. A single strobe is a PITA sometimes.

I really liked that horned shrimp shot! Those little buggers are really tough to get a good shot of!

Good eyes on the bug on the Grunt. It's a fish lice. They feed on their host but generally don't cause that much harm unless the infestation gets really bad. Not all that common on Grunts. They are usually covering the bottom fish like the great sculpin and buffalo's and flatfish.
