LostinBrowsmead spotted this stubby squid on our dive at Redondo today.

He was BIG! ...easily 3 times the size of previous stubbies that I've seen. Even allowing for water magnification he was between baseball and softball size. Does anyone know how big they get?

Tom -
Although I've personally not seen one this big, my resources all state that they can get up to 5 inches in length, which would seem to be about the size of the one you saw.
A perfect "snack-size" for a Lingcod!

Yes, this guy would definitely have been Ling Calamari! The tiny ones would just be a tease for a Ling, this guy would have been a meal! I wish I could have gotten something in the background for perspective but he was already a bit spooked...John Rawlings wrote:Tom -

Diver_C and I saw 3-4 stubbies last year at Cove 2 on the boundary line at about 85fsw that were baseball sized.Tom Nic wrote: Does anyone know how big they get?
