Rare sighting for PT

Post by Dusty2 »

I was fortunate enough to get this video before the viz closed up. We don't see these often in the sound.

Very cool, beautiful fish, great to see it in motion like that. I've only seen them at Neah Bay.

Way to go old timer. I have seen them just north a ways in Haro Strait, but never that far south/

Very cool! I think the only one I've ever seen was at Redondo a few years ago.

Used to see them regularly at Edmonds UW park, and from time to time at Cove 2 :)

I used to see them around Bremerton, while wading at low tide, and we'd frequently get them in nets from eelgrass beds. I rarely see them when I 'm diving and suspect they tend to hang out shallower than we generally do when we're on scuba.

What an elegant, beautiful fish! I have never seen one.

I tend to agree Greg, Seems like I usually see them in the 20 to 30 foot range. They don't seem to be great swimmers and they are designed to blend in with the kelp. Here is a baby

We used to get them quite a bit in net collections off the railroad beach, or off the marine center pier, but quite often they were much smaller. I've seen them that size a few times diving under the PTMSC pier as well. Really neat fish!! Just have to go to places with more grass!
