Whoopee! Big news for me!

Post by Dusty2 »

I think pretty much every one knows how much of a nudibranch nut I am. Well a couple of years ago I found a critter at Point Hudson that stumped me and Dave Behrens so Dave did a bunch of research and told me it was a new species. Dave compiled a paper and presented it to the academics and I have received word that the paper has been approved and there is a new slug on the block named Marsenina zadei!

That was a hard find, blends so well. How come it's not called the Dusty nutibranch?

Very cool! Did you give it a common name?
Very interesting shape. Which side is the front? can you link to the paper?

I will as soon as it's released. What about Dusty's nudibranch? As to what is front ? you'll have to ask Dave. He did all the micro investigation. I can tell you that it has a shell but it is inside the critter.

Not latin enough! You should see it when it is fully blended with it'd food source. They not only eat this organism but they deposit their eggs directly into it.

Where else but Point Hudson?

It certainly did. I had given up on it but luckily Dave didn't. I owe him a lot of credit for getting it recognized.

That is the highest reward a keen-eyed observer can get. My heartfelt congratulations.

I can now proudly say that I know TWO people who have identified and named new nudibranchs species :)

Rich: I add my congratulations. I see several things worth noting. First are our skills of observation and your curiosity. Second comes the relationship you established with the other experts in the field. Finally, the honor and integrity of the researchers who submitted the name. The history of science abounds with those that claimed other people's discoveries. Again, well done.

Very cool having a critter named after you!

I'm hoping to have some sort of biting, annoying bug named after me.

I think the common name should be Dusty's Diminutive Slug. I had to go the Google a couple of times to understand all of the article. Biology has come a long way from the days of "bag it and tag it". I noticed the pictures were taken by your brother Rick. It also fails to surprise me that Jan is acknowledged as well. I am gratified to know people helping push back the boundaries of knowledge. Thank you Rich for posting this.
