Last Saturday I was doing a monthly training dive in the Necanicum river in Seaside OR, with the Clatsop County Dive team. We were practicing search patterns. As I followed the dive plan I found two shopping carts and a small piece of concrete. As I moved to a sweep pattern, I noticed that my tending line was not tending in the right direction. I told my tender that I was going back to find what I had snagged on. When I found the snag I said I had found a large chunk of concrete, no I had found a "TRUCK". I was told to stay where I was so my safety diver could bring out a marker bouy. After the truck was marked we returned to the pier where I found that finding the truck was not part of the training exercise but was actually a stolen truck that had been missing for a year and 1/2. When the tow truck showed up, We hooked up the tow cable to the truck and watched the truck emerge from the river. As we were retreiving the truck we noticed that a crowd had emerged and a marching band was playing music as we worked. My first time diving to marching music. I even made the Seaside paper. http://www.seasidesignal.com/articles/2 ... 873596.txt
This made for an interesting dive training weekend. SOLV was also doing a river cleanup. We got more stuff than they did!
Good Job! :wav:
I would only hope to be that lucky some day.
It is cool to hear about how diving benifits our community as well as just being a fun, exspensive hobby.
