BCD Inflator

Post by dwashbur »

Mine seems to be stuck with a slow leak. Tuesday while diving Redondo, I had to empty my BCD about every 5 minutes because it kept filling up. I soaked the valve as best I could, tested it, and it's definitely leaking. Does anybody know a quick way to unstick one of these things?

Service it or replace it.

I had that occur and took a dab of silicon grease and put it on the nipple of the inflator and then connected the hose and filed it up. It shoots the grease to all the inside seals and worked great

Fwiw standard inflators are really easy to service. It's a stock set of o-rings that are easily replaceable and they're basically all alike.

Harbor freight has o-rig kits in Viton super cheap and picks. Deep Sea Supply sells a tool that is all you need along with a screwdriver and a new set of zip ties to do the rebuild. https://www.deepseasupply.com/index.php?product=1302. There is also a hose flush adapter there that is worth owning.

You can do it without the tool with a half decent toolkit but the tool is a must have for any save a dive kit.

Tobin used to have a video online even of the process.

Heh. Dive gear express even has the whole shebang for $6. https://www.divegearexpress.com/inflato ... o-ring-kit

Pictorial at the bottom of that page walks thru how to use it.

More reason to always only use normal standard inflators on wings...no matter where in the world, they'll always have the parts.
