Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Is such a gunnel group common? I have never seen it.

Happy to be alive.
Re: Whidbey Island Critters
Last year in September, I found them at the same rock pile under the same rock in large numbers. But rest of the year, they are not there.oldsalt wrote:Is such a gunnel group common? I have never seen it.

I don't know, is it some mating thing with gunnels ?
They are not loners, but most of the time I see just few of them together ...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
I've seen big groups like this sometimes at 3 tree too under the corrugated pipes. But it has been many years.

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
During my last week dive in Penn Cove, checking on the "Dead Zone" I found that many of the Cockle shells had juvenile crabs inside them.
So I looked it up since it was something new to me and found that there is a reason for it

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
I love the way ratfish swim by flapping their fins like a bird.
Also, I find it cool that ratfish are first cousins to sharks. So, a goldfish is more closely related to a (land) rat than it is to a ratfish.

Re: Whidbey Island Critters
I never seen Northern Kelp Crabs in crab trap. Maybe because the season seems endless this year and most Dungeness crabs are gone?
True, the hordes I used to see around the tire reef are not there now. :(
