Trying to find the right CCR

Mine calls to me every weekend to dive it long, dive it deep. I quit counting hours after 300.

Still so interested in a RB huh? Honestly, I dove mine weekly for >11 years, and my conclusion is that there are not too many advantages unless you're doing wide angle photography upshots (no bubbles in your shots) or a lot of super deep stuff (of which, you really need to ask yourself WHY. A lot of people do a few deep dives, just to try it, then quit)

I would go further and say that there are a number of advantages to CCR diving:

* Even in recreational depths you have more freedom of profile - Spend 45 minutes below 80-100 feet on a 1 hour dive with no deco
* Long dives - I just did a 2:45 dive in Cayman, much of it below 100 feet traversing between two wrecks of dropping down a deep wall
* Bubbles - Some animals, particularly sharks and ++ for Hammerheads, will come closer to CCR divers due to the lack of bubbles.
* Bubbles - Lack of the racket of bubbles. CCR is so much more peaceful, its shocking to switch back to open circuit after a while

All of this come at a cost in $$$ but it's a fun way to dive and a really interesting new dimension of skills to master.

ok, and my main reasoning is because after you have alot more knowledge of what you do and i believe it would make me a better diver overall

I think it does make you a better diver.

If you can nail buoyancy on a ccr, oc is easy peasy.

You'll take better care of your gear , be more meticulous, and you'll have great dive planning skills.

How was your dive on the corsair today

viz wasnt very good on the way out, but on the wreck it was pretty good. Way better than the last dive on the bomber.

You definitely want to try the various units before making the decision. What works for one person may not work for someone else. The unit I had my sights set on unfortunately just didn't breathe well for me in the water, and I'm grateful for having been able to try it out before making the commitment.

At a demo day. Locally they are few and far between
Someplace like Add Helium would be the quick route to trying many units, but they are in FL

Yes, as CaptnJack says a CCR demo day where people bring units from different manufacturers and there are instructors there to help you try them out. I did mine with scubagrunt and it was great finding the one that was right for me (the Meg).

the only problem with the try days, is you dont know, what you dont know. I was set to get a revo after that, wouldnt even try the meg cuz of all the front clutter.

Craig Brown on Olympia is a Meg instructor. Former owner of Capital Divers
Mel Clark is a Revo instructor still (I think) and JJ instructor. I'm not sure she still teaches on the Meg.
Craig Willemsen at Silent World is a Kiss instructor.

They don't really even make an mCCR anymore. Everything is based on the new Meg15 technology. You could get one used easier than new at this point.
