Oof. # of dives.....15? 20? Highlights - getting in the water! Lowlights? - Not getting in the water. :( Don't tear your rotator cuffs and ACL, kids, it's no bueno. But, I managed to go a whole year without a major surgery!
2018 brings trips to Hawaii and Roatan, so there's that to look forward to. Happy diving!

Dives: 39. Not bad considering I lived in Colorado most of last year.
Highlights: Finding a drone and two skate boards off Port Townsend. Oh, that and graduating with a PhD.
2018 goal: Deception Pass

Dives: 18
Stats:
* Total dive time: 9h 46min
* Max depth: 89ft
* Average SAC: 0.82
Highlights:
* Getting my drysuit and getting comfortable with it
* Joining NWDiveClub
* Club dive at Sund Rock in the summer
* Getting a new Perdix AI dive computer
Lowlights:
* Not diving enough
* Moving south to Vancouver, WA and therefore not being able to go diving as much as I was starting to!
* Dry suit fill valve failure with drysuit becoming semi-dry (requiring replacement) causing a dive to be aborted shortly after it started

The degree says "Geography". But the research was remote sensing of Antarctic land surface temperature extremes.Penopolypants wrote:Congratulations Doctor 60South! What is it in?60south wrote: Oh, that and graduating with a PhD.

I posted Snake Island trip from last August.YellowEye wrote:Ooh! Can can you post a trip report on snake Island wall on a separate thread? I haven't dlove that site in 10 years but I always loved it! A bunch of us are hoping to go back there in March!ohopdiver wrote:Hey Tim, lets splash this year. I got 71 dives, nothing exotic, all Puget and BC. My faves were Snake Island Wall and Hoko Reef. It was a lot more shore diving plus charters as my boat was available only a few months.
I hadn't heard of Hoko Reef. Sounds cool! Would love to hear more about that too!
HOKO Reef is 3 miles west of Sekiu where the HOKO River empties into the Straits. . It's similar to Waadah but smaller and more colorful with great structure, Wolfies and GPOs. It is a boat dive but possible to dive from shore - I may try that this year. Caution - strong offshore currents possible. Stay at Curley's, he has air but closes in winter. No local dive charter. More cautions - low tide can strand a boat at the Sekiu docks and don't cut the buoys marking shallow areas near the jetty. Other local dives: Sekiu Jetty, Slip Point, Andalusia, L Crescent on the way home.

2017 Wrap Up:
Number of dives: 73 dives: Sund Rock, Blue Heron Bridge in Florida, Roatan, Neah Bay, Sea of Cortez, San Juan Islands, Hornby Island BC, and Bonaire.
Highlights: Seeing my first ROCK GREENLING (it was out at Neah Bay). Seeing my first Whale Shark (Sea of Cortez). Placing an underwater geocache in Roatan on the Wreck of the Prince Albert.
Lowlights: Stumbling across a set of human remains (in August) from a missing person (since April) out at Neah Bay - Box Canyon dive site. Turned out to be a Makah tribal member, Joshua Monette, a wonderful young man who had been a student at Dartmouth and was home on spring break, and had been out storm watching on the rocks with a cousin(?). Rogue wave washed them both in the water. Cousin was able to scramble back up onto land, but Coast Guard was never able to find Joshua. Although a highlight was being able to provide closure for family members who were able to retrieve the remains the next day with a local dive team, and communicating with his mother and hoping it provided some comfort.

Definitely Dan! It's been way too long since we've splashed together, maybe five years-ish, LoL!ohopdiver wrote:Hey Tim, lets splash this year. I got 71 dives, nothing exotic, all Puget and BC. We're right over by the Hood Canal bridge now, so not too far away.
Now that 60South is back in town, I have someone to nag me to get back in the water and we pretty much only do shore dives (read that too broke for boat dives hahaha!).
