Saltwater state park 21-Mar-2020

Post by iotium »

My dive buddy/wife and I have long debated whether or not Saltwater is current sensitive. We decided to settle the argument by doing two dives there on Saturday, the first at slack and the second at max flood.

Drumroll….. she won.

The first dive (at slack) had mild current at first but then built up to be pretty strong and flowing W, away from shore. The second dive (max flood) had no current at all.

Visibility was mediocre but it was a nice day and we had two great dives.

Now, please enjoy my continued attempts at underwater photography:

Very cool! Thanks for the pics and report!

Your seastar is a stimpson star. We saw one at Redondo today to. Great to see!

Funny your max flood dive had no current. Perhaps you hit high tide slack? It may have come early given the huge ebb.

The slacks were quite ill-timed at keystone on Saturday due to those fast ebbs.

The ebb is when you find the most pronounced currents at saltwater being on the outside of the "bend". SW winter storm/winds can exacerbate this
