It'll be awfully nice to have a place to go buy whatever you've forgotten or discovered isn't working, as well!
Wonder if Mark is going to have Sunday hours in the new location?

Who will be running it? Are they still keeping their Issaquah location?

Well, 5thD is kinda known for having a specific type of equipment that is not necessarily the norm at other shops, or is there but not known much about or promoted. I think they have a loyal customer base- and I'm assuming they don't all live in Issaquah, so it might actually serve them better here.

Actually, Deep Fathom did pretty well ... the reason they closed was because the building was owned by the Glass company next door, and they decided not to renew the lease for the dive shop because they wanted to expand their operation. Phyllis and Jim decided they were ready to retire, rather than relocating the business.Calvin wrote:I hope they do better there than the last dive shop in W Seattle, which I think suffered from the fact that most people only bought air fills and replacement parts, instead of the big ticket items that shops depend on to pay the bills.
I think it's a smart move for Mark ... I think he'll get a bunch of new business out of it (I hope so, anyway) ...

Regarding the attitude comment - I think it'll be interesting to see the dynamics of a DIR shop catering to non-DIR divers looking for fills, misc. parts to fix broken issues, etc.
This is certainly an opportunity for what has been historically known as a closed group to interface and hopefully promote better relations with the rest of the diving world. I hope they'll take advantage of this opportunity and use it well.
I doubt it'll be very long before we know how it goes...

You know, strong personalities elicit strong responses. And we all have our favorite shops and people to deal with. And 5thD is not my primary dive shop, but I'm glad they are going to be on Alki, because Alki needs a dive shop. Think of the times you've forgotten something, or gotten to the dive site and discovered you brought the used tank and not the full one, or blew an o-ring when you hooked the tank up, or discovered the viz was so fantastic you wanted to do a second dive, but you didn't have any gas.
There is so much diving that goes on there that a dive shop is really needed, and I, for one, am happy one is going to be there, even if my primary business is still going to go where it goes today.

I still think it'll be interesting to see how they interact with the non-DIR folks who come in for fills and service.
