Everyone is invited to participate in this competition! This is not a professional competition by any means--it is an amateur event for all skill levels. So, don't worry if you don't know anything about f-stops, apertures, and the rules of thirds. (I know I don't!) However, in previous 3 years, winners from different categories have been published on the cover of Northwest Dive News! If you've got that lucky shot, enter it!!!
Nine Competitive Divisions:
Cold Water Wide Angle: Photo covers a large area and has a distinct foreground, background, and subject shot in a cold water environment such as the Pacific Northwest.
Warm Water Wide Angle: Photo covers a large area and has a distinct foreground, background, and subject shot in a warm water, tropical location.
Cold Water Macro: Photo is a subject taken at very close range and showing minute detail normally not seen by the naked eye shot in a cold water environment such as the Pacific Northwest.
Warm Water Macro: Photo is a subject taken at very close range and showing minute detail normally not seen by the naked eye shot in a warm water, tropical location.
Cold Water Marine Life: Photo is a single subject with foreground and background as secondary or obscure. Photo typically shows clear and unique details of the subject shot in a cold water environment such as the Pacific Northwest.
Warm Water Marine Life: Photo is a single subject with foreground and background as secondary or obscure. Photo typically shows clear and unique details of the subject shot in a warm water, tropical location.
Diver: Photo depicts a scuba diver in action! Photo can be topside or underwater, in either cold or warm water destinations.
Diving Lifestyle: Divers are unique individuals with incredible experiences that can be captured as images that reflect a day in their life. Photo can depict any aspect of the lifestyle of a scuba diver. Photo can be topside or underwater, in either cold or warm water destinations.
The Digital Era: Photo has been significantly, digitally altered by software such as Adobe Photoshop, etc. Combine your artistic, creative, and computer talents to create a scene that will stimulate the viewer’s imagination. Photo can be topside or underwater, in either cold or warm water destinations.
How To Participate:
Prints must be 8 inches x 10 inches
Prints should be mounted or framed, no larger than 11 inches x 14 inches
Prints must be ready to hang
Collages, previously entered photos, previously published photos, or photos that do not meet size requirements cannot be accepted
Submissions must be clearly marked on the back with photographer’s name, email address, and phone number
Naming your entry is highly encouraged
Entries accepted at any Puget Sound Depth Chargers club meeting or by appointment
Entry deadline is Saturday, August 11th, 2007 at 5:00 PM
Entry fee: $5.00 per photo
Judging & Prizes:
Preliminary judging contingent upon total number of entries. Final judging by public/popular vote of the visitors of Salt Water State Park.
Awards will be presented to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photographs in each division. “Best of Show” will then be selected from all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners by our panel of judges. 1st place photographs in each category and “Best of Show” photograph will be auctioned off to the public at a future Puget Sound Depth Chargers' club meeting. The “Best of Show” winner will receive a professionally enlarged, matted, and framed version of their entry.
