4th Annual Photo Competition!

Post by enchantmentdivi »

Hello everyone!

I cordially invite all of you underwater photographers to participate in the Puget Sound Depth Chargers' 4th Annual Underwater Photo Competition!!! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

Everyone is invited to participate in this competition! This is not a professional competition by any means--it is an amateur event for all skill levels. So, don't worry if you don't know anything about f-stops, apertures, and the rules of thirds. (I know I don't!) However, in previous 3 years, winners from different categories have been published on the cover of Northwest Dive News! If you've got that lucky shot, enter it!!!

Nine Competitive Divisions:

Cold Water Wide Angle: Photo covers a large area and has a distinct foreground, background, and subject shot in a cold water environment such as the Pacific Northwest.
Warm Water Wide Angle: Photo covers a large area and has a distinct foreground, background, and subject shot in a warm water, tropical location.
Cold Water Macro: Photo is a subject taken at very close range and showing minute detail normally not seen by the naked eye shot in a cold water environment such as the Pacific Northwest.
Warm Water Macro: Photo is a subject taken at very close range and showing minute detail normally not seen by the naked eye shot in a warm water, tropical location.
Cold Water Marine Life: Photo is a single subject with foreground and background as secondary or obscure. Photo typically shows clear and unique details of the subject shot in a cold water environment such as the Pacific Northwest.
Warm Water Marine Life: Photo is a single subject with foreground and background as secondary or obscure. Photo typically shows clear and unique details of the subject shot in a warm water, tropical location.
Diver: Photo depicts a scuba diver in action! Photo can be topside or underwater, in either cold or warm water destinations.
Diving Lifestyle: Divers are unique individuals with incredible experiences that can be captured as images that reflect a day in their life. Photo can depict any aspect of the lifestyle of a scuba diver. Photo can be topside or underwater, in either cold or warm water destinations.
The Digital Era: Photo has been significantly, digitally altered by software such as Adobe Photoshop, etc. Combine your artistic, creative, and computer talents to create a scene that will stimulate the viewer’s imagination. Photo can be topside or underwater, in either cold or warm water destinations.

How To Participate:

Prints must be 8 inches x 10 inches
Prints should be mounted or framed, no larger than 11 inches x 14 inches
Prints must be ready to hang
Collages, previously entered photos, previously published photos, or photos that do not meet size requirements cannot be accepted
Submissions must be clearly marked on the back with photographer’s name, email address, and phone number
Naming your entry is highly encouraged
Entries accepted at any Puget Sound Depth Chargers club meeting or by appointment
Entry deadline is Saturday, August 11th, 2007 at 5:00 PM
Entry fee: $5.00 per photo

Judging & Prizes:

Preliminary judging contingent upon total number of entries. Final judging by public/popular vote of the visitors of Salt Water State Park.
Awards will be presented to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photographs in each division. “Best of Show” will then be selected from all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners by our panel of judges. 1st place photographs in each category and “Best of Show” photograph will be auctioned off to the public at a future Puget Sound Depth Chargers' club meeting. The “Best of Show” winner will receive a professionally enlarged, matted, and framed version of their entry.

An entry form may be printed from here:

Yes, make sure you head down and vote for my photo (I only submitted one).. I'd put it up so you'd know which one is mine so you could vote for it.. but enchantmentdivi is always accusing me of cheating at events like these ;) so I'll just have to send my telepathic photo over the boards.. Vote Vote Vote for me!!!!

You are receiving the transmission... It is going into your subconscious brain.....

... or you could just do like me and use it for your avatar ...

... I just hope Calvin didn't submit any of those things he uses for avatars in the photo contest ... [-X

Thanks Holly for NOT actually telling us which picture is yours and asking us to vote for it. I liked your tongue-in-cheek approach to getting the word out that people should come and vote.

Apparently the Depth Chargers have had issues in the past where photographers had actually told all their friends (many of whom were non-divers) to come and vote for their photos.

I do believe that somewhere in the rules it says something about this. Also one of the reasons the names of the photographers were supposed to be on the BACK of the photo.

I didn't enter any of mine, so, I have no real stake in this. other than being an active member of the Depth Chargers Dive Club.

I will be providing a culinary delight for the potluck, so, even if you don't dive, or care about which picture wins, at least you should come and try the Crab Jambalaya. There may even be some fresh crab legs to go on top...

It is looking like this is going to be a huge event. Even you north-enders should get out your passports and GPS units and head south of Seattle for a day trip. Us south-enders promise to let you in. We could even provide directions. And we have all the conveniences of the North End. Running water, gas stations, flush toilets (at least I think there are flush toilets at Salt Water State Park, I haven't been there for a while) and such.

Well I actually saw some of the photos that are going in and so I do need all the help I can get.. telepathic or otherwise.. There is going to be some really awesome photos this year.. I was blown away last year too. So my telepathic vibes are still coming through.. If your screen is vibrating that's ok.. It's just the brain wave machine I have hooked up.. Keep looking at it..

Yes please keep your photos a secret if you submitted one.. I actually want to have a fair shot at it...

I was being tongue-in-cheek too ... since that pic's been my avatar since January, I doubt anyone who reads this board would fail to recognize it.

But I promise ... I have not encouraged anyone to "vote for me" ... [-X

I'm glad Jenn posted the reminder ... I had forgotten that the contest was this week-end. It will be cool to drop by and see all the nice pictures ...

I wanted to give others a chance to win. (So where is the emoticon for being sarcastic/with a tongue sticking out of their cheek/just kidding/insert other appropriate cliche here)

In reality, there were a ton of reasons. Maybe next year. But thanks for the compliment.

It's actually quite okay to tell your friends and family to come check out the entries in the gallery and to vote. It's not too cool to point out which ones are yours and ask them to vote for them. We did have one dude that did that a few years ago right in front of me. Sad for him that it just made him look like a real loser and didn't help him win. [-X

I don't have any photos to enter and neither did Tim (Cpt.Bungee), he had some great shots this year though.
I will be stopping by at least to see the photos, maybe dive but then off to work...If Tim isn't too tired from his night shift, I will bring him along as well.

Maybe NWDC members who won can post their own entries for us to see? Valerie? Bob, Jackie to name just a few?

Congrats to all - outstanding! The names are quite enticing - let's see 'em!
