Current predictions

Post by TCWestby »

Does anyone know of any north end classes in current predictions? I got a book and after 15 minutes my eyes glazed over. I guess I need in person training and lots of practice.

Someone has a class thats real good. Somebody here will post the information. I'm sorry I dont have it handy. Stay with the tide book though Todd. The information is invaluable. I was the same way at first. Numbers, tide stations, graphs, times, highs, lows, floods, ebbs. Slack before flood, slack before ebb. Current strength, Current direction, All dependent on what the tides do. I still get confused. Ask the guys at your LDS to show you the ropes. They should be able to explain it in detail. If not.......... Someone here may be able to do so very easily. To keep it simple, I always try to time my dives with the slack. That is easily marked in any tide book both numerically and graphically. With experience you can get away with "missing" slack in either direction and have a basic understanding of what is happening at any given site. The key is to dive many sites, and take note of the existing conditions. There are also Tide/Current Websites that you can use. Many of us use this:

Mischi, at Pelagia scuba (http://www.pelagiascuba.com/) teaches a tides and currents class. I've been meaning to take it myself for some time.

That's it! Well done Lynne. =D> I have read reports on this class and I'm looking forward to attending also.

Oh, I don't plan on tossing the book. As a kid I got good at keeping track of tides and I can guestimate the aproximate currents at the sites I frequent. I just want to get more accurate and good at it.

I'll look into that class. Thanks for the help.
