Wow! What else can you say but WOW! I'm surprised that he had room inside the suit for his brass ones!

I love his description of how it looked at 2000 feet!

HO-LEE CRAP! That is freaking amazing! I'll be pretty thrilled if I get to 10% of that depth @200fsw someday!

Is that's what the suit does? It pressurizes like a submarine?

More like it doesn'tpressurize, I'm guessing- keeps you at one ata all the way to 2000 fsw. I want one. With tech advancing the way it is, I wouldn't be suprised to see 1000 foot dives become commonplace in rec diving eventually.

Yep - it was a variant of the suits I am pictured with here, made just north of here in Vancouver BC. I got involved in that in my last job.

No, I never dove the suit. I wish I could have!

The pix was taken before dockside trials were conducted, and way before the USN certified it for manned use under a very stringent program called the Deep Submergence Systems / Scope of Certification Program.

Incidentally, the company that makes the suits also made similar ones for the Russians, Japanese, and other governments. They also made the submersibles for the Abyss and for Ballard's exploration of Titanic.

Very cool!

... and just to be clear ... I am not a Navy diver.

I have had the privilege and pleasure of having a Navy dive locker work for me and I have a great deal of respect for those people!!
