Diet Coke + Mentos = ?!?!?!

These guys drilled holes through and strung Mentos mints on string, then suspended them with alligator clips inside (but above the liquid line) 2 liter bottles of diet coke. Did anyone know that Mentos and Diet Coke made such a violent reaction? Watch the Bellagio-like production (it’s about 2 minutes)!

Who needs a scooter?!?! $1200-1500 for a scooter versus $2.00 for a coke/mentos!!! Plus, the trail of diet coke bubbles behind you... priceless!

I tried it a couple of weeks ago. I was told to use 3 Mentos so being a guy I thought 4 would be better. The reaction was so fast that it jammed the Mentos up at the cap and just sprayed everyone else. Need more testing, but very funny.

Just saw it on Mythbusters about a week ago - funny as anything!!



They got the soda to shoot up over 30 feet!

Only worked with Diet Coke - seltzer water hardly did anything. They didn't compare with regular Coke or other brands of diet soda.

And the Menthos had to be the original ones with the rough white surface, not the candy-shell coated ones.

The really cool trick was what they did with dry ice and an empty 2-litre bottle. (** impressively dangerous **) --- Those guys always have to blow something up!!
