What will 2009 bring?

Post by Sounder »

Spinning off from the 2008 dives thread, I thought it be fun to hear what diving everyone is looking forward to in 2009!!

For me, 2009 will be an interesting year of balancing fatherhood, graduate school, work, and diving. I'm looking forward to technical training with NAUI and/or UTD, an exciting 3-day trip to the northern Channel Islands, a trip to dive Atlantic wrecks and Florida caverns, a trip to dive somewhere around Vancouver Islands (to be determined), my first several Lake Washington dives, more exploration around Lopez Island, a crab rodeo/feast even larger than last year, and much more exploration of new-to-me areas around Puget Sound.

Where are you going underwater in 2009?!

2009 will bring MANY PNW dives where I will attempt to master my air consumption, and frog kicks, as well as backing up.

Nitrox cert

Rescue Cert

Planning a trip for next winter to take the wife somewhere warm to help her SAD, while also looking to dive. It will have to be reasonably priced and I will be hitting many up on here.

**Hopefully Sitka in February (not confirmed yet)

**Gotta get to Vancouver Island, Date and Place to be determined.

**Some formal / informal doubles training after I loose my next 50 lbs. Almost halfway to my goal! \:D/

I am looking forward to a huge year of diving for me. Looking forward to getting to dive my own gear, to dive with some of the PNW divers who have been so helpful to me, I have so much to learn so I am excited to get started, and I am excited about trying to do some diving in Lake Washington as I am sitting in my house drinking coffee right now and I could throw a baseball and hit a swimmer (if there were any to be seen).

February: Diving with North Shore Explorers on Maui.

April: Hopefully back to MX for more cave diving, and then the dive Expo here at the end of the month.

May: My 25th med school reunion gives me a perfect excuse to go down and dive Monterey for a couple of days.

June/July/August somewhere: Cave 2. Also 3 days in the Channel Islands at the end of June.

October: A week on the MV Tala in the Red Sea.

November: If at all possible, back to MX.

Somewhere in all of this may be somebody's Tech 1. I also want to get our boat out a LOT more this year, and go exploring in the Sound a bit.

Ha..and people think diving is expensive! My wifes wedding dress could have bought my whole diving setup, including my dry suit.

I would like to:
A) Get over the hyperventilating past 80'
B) Try my hand at underwater video's
C) See an adult GPO, and Wolf EEL
D) Take 1 more class (not sure which one yet)

I am just hoping to do more diving in the PNW and as of right now be glad to see warmer weather. :violent3: My goals would be to take my advanced open water and BUY a DRY SUIT cause I fear going diving with this below freezing temps in a wetsuit. It is not the diving but the stripping down in the back of my truck turning into some shivering blue snowman. :smt064

May your strobe fire correctly and you have ample room on your memory card and fully charged batteries when this happens.

2009 brings me a Meg! Can't wait to start diving ccr although my love for wrecks will have to get put on hold until I am trained and ready.
I'm hoping also to get back to Bonaire and possibly a wreck trip to Key Largo with the crew.

Probably 2 weeks in Akumal in late June. Working a homeswap with someone who has a condo there.

Otherwise, Exploration, exploration, exploration.. Just got word of a sailing ship that sank near here and has never been found or looked for. Also have several others to find in addition to exploring for new sites that aren't wrecks or relic sites. I also want to do a trip into the Klondike and dive some old goldrush sites (freshwater). I can't wait for April - we plan to hit it hard!

I'm spending the winter researching and training my buddies!

Lynne posted most of my diving year:
February: Diving with North Shore Explorers on Maui.
April: Hopefully back to MX for more cave diving, and then the dive Expo here at the end of the month.
May: Dive Monterey for a couple of days.
Although I suppose the "real uptick" is that I just signed up for an AI course in January with the intent of becoming an OWSI not too long after that. It should be an interesting experience and an interesting year.
