Viz Reports Thread
Re: Viz Reports Thread
Sat Dec 17th
I am terrible at estimating viz but at Octopus Hole in the Canal -- You could see the sun glowing thru the surface from the top of the wall. So it was really really good.
Verticle viz seemed better then horizontal viz but it was considered an epic dive

Today at Redondo was great vis at the surface you could look down 20 fsw and see clearly the pump at the bottom. So I would say 25fsw easy today

Dove with Rob3 today at EUP. Went down around 0800. Viz was just marginal around 15 fsw.
When was the last time you did something for the first time?
Re: Viz Reports Thread
Mukilteo fuel dock, today. Viz was less than five feet. Reportedly, it opened up when you got deeper than 60, but my computer was acting up, and I wasn't willing to go that deep.
Total bottom time: a few minutes.
BAH.

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Redondo was pretty poor above 30-40 fsw, about 5ish. Opened up nicely at the bottlefield, 12ish!

Redondo New Years eve, about the same, a foggy 5' or so, down to about 70', then opened up to 10' or so.

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Gig Harbor, Tides Tavern dock - about 15 ft, until the silt got all stirred up digging bottles out, when it went down to right about zero... But we had a damn fun time and found some cool bottles!

Snomageddon turning into slushmageddon turning into rainmageddon next week...viz might not be too hot for awhile.
At Mukilteo Monday the first 20 feet was maybe 5 feet viz, then opening to 20 feet viz or so below that.

Redondo, 1/22--15 ft with some suspended silt. Much better than I had anticipated with run off. However, it was COLD, COLD, COLD!!!

Re: Viz Reports Thread
1/22/12 Mukilteo T-Dock perhaps nearly twenty feet of vis. A great dive with little current. Octazilla still hanging out at the boat.

Yep, the old timer is hanging in there. Wonder how many more days he has left...Ranbal wrote:1/22/12 Mukilteo T-Dock perhaps nearly twenty feet of vis. A great dive with little current. Octazilla still hanging out at the boat.
Re: Viz Reports Thread
13 days since a vis report? Are you people crazy? Had a fantastic Alki junkyard night dive with Kees yesterday. Visibility was about 20 feet. GO DIVING!
We had a great dive with several personal firsts for me and at least one for Kees. I got fist bumped by a squid, body slammed by a seal, head-butted by hundreds of little not-shiner-perch (we couldn't identify them), played peek-a-boo with a juvenile wolfie, saw a new shrimp I need to go home and look up, and played in a field of shiner-perch that were spread out on the bottom like coins in a fountain. Great conditions. Again, GO DIVING.

Re: Viz Reports Thread
I was at EUP today around 11:00, viz was about 20ft. There was little current and we were attacked by 2 cabezons. The first of which slammed into my arm.

Dude, that's a sea lion, and that's awesome!
Viz Reports Thread
I wasn't sure if it was a sea lion or a big seal. I couldn't tell if it had ears or not.....

The easiest way to tell is to see if they swim with their pectoral fins, or with their hind fins. Also, a seal's pectoral fins are relatively small, while the guy you saw has big ol' pecs.
On a side note, viz at Edmonds was around 15', with tons of cabezon on eggs:

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Viz at Redondo today was superb -- at least 30 and maybe more, as long as you were where the classes weren't.

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Viz last night at muk clay walls was a mucky 10-15 all the way to 75ft
Re: Viz Reports Thread
15 ft at Edmonds today.
Re: Viz Reports Thread
Vis at Mukilteo T-dock 2/18/2012 - 30 ft. High winds generated a little current.
Happy to be alive.
Re: Viz Reports Thread
Visibility at Sund Rock on Friday Feb 17th was a solid 30' - very nice for Sund!
An added bonus was that the visibility extended to the shallows - somewhat of a rarity for the rock, and a welcome event since much cool like lives in the shallows!
A great couple of dives, thanks Tim!
