7/4/13: 3-Tree
Viz 3 ft until around 15 ft and then opened up to 15-20 ft. LOTS of fisherman, LOTS of boats coming in really close including one that pulled up all the way to shore right above us, and another one dropping about a dozen crap pots in around 40-50 ft of water. Luckily, we saw that happening after we surfaced otherwise one could easily landed on our heads. Be careful out there folks!!!

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Tis crab season and lots of crazy things happen as fisher people get crab fever. That's why we went to Sund rock on Thursday the 4th.
Viz in the shallows down to 20 fsw was typical summer time yuck - about 5-10. Below 20 fsw opened up to 15 - 25 with snot balls hanging in the water column. At 135 to 180 fsw no snot balls, viz open up to about 20 - 30 fsw, but pitch black.

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Went crabbing at Mukilteo today 5 foot vis would be generous.
My buddies and I tried something new we dug up all of our old vintage gear and used it for the dive. After the dive we realized why we now dive the gear we have now.

3-5 in shallows

Lake Chelan today, maybe 50+ feet or so.
Re: Viz Reports Thread
Keystone Jetty, 5 - 10 down to about 25, then opened up to a robust, reliable ten or so . . . Didn't matter. So much macro life, who cared what the viz was?

7/6: Mukilteo Lighthouse Park - about 2 feet down to 35', then about 10-15. Huge difference from Thursday when it cleared by 20' and opened to about 25'.

3-Tree, 7/6: Lousy down to 45' > opened up to 10'. At 65' it opened up to 15'.

Mukilteo oil dock 7/7 - 2 to 5 ft down to around 30', then 5-10 ft (closer to 5 than 10 most of the time, and we never went much past 40 ft depth anyway...).

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Well its the summer time blues in the diving world.
Sund rock 7/7
Interesting note, with a south wind a flood tide seems to have better viz than the ebb at Sund rock. Hood canal has limited water exchange due to its geology. So a south wind forces up deep clearer water (but hypoxic) to the surface layer. That is a flood tide works in conjunction with a south wind causing the deep water circulation effect. And that was the conditions we had on Sunday.
14:00 tail end of flood, 50+ on top 10 feet. 11 - 20 depth is 15 - 20. 21 - 60 depth is 10 - 15. 61 - 182 depth is 20 - 25.
18:00 middle of the ebb, top 10 depth is 20 - 25. 11- 60 depth is 3 - 15. 61 - 94 depth is 15 - 25.
However at cove2 on Sat 7/6 with a north wind (although I not sure how much the wind affects viz conditions) the ebb seemed to improve viz. So one could infer from these observations, hood canal diving is best done on the flood with south wind conditions, while diving in the general puget sound area is best done on an ebb. Anyone else encountered this observation?

7/7 Redondo -- 5-10 ft vis all the way down to 50 ft, which was as deep as we went due to the extremely low tide. Pea soup with snot... worst vis I have personally seen.
Later this week I expect 100+ ft vis in a cenote.

Re: Viz Reports Thread
A little late but fairly recent:
7/5, 1300 - 1400
Rosario Head, Northwest Island
5-10 foot viz from surface to 147 FSW.
7/7, 11:30 - 12:30
Mukilteo T-Dock, Oil Dock
Pea soup down to about 30 FSW, opening up to 10-15 viz 50-100 FSW.
Seems like EPIC VIZ is gone  Stupid sun!

Hadlock Bay - The Comet wreck - 5' or less, possibly 8-10' if you were hugging the bottom.
So we packed it in and went to
Ft. Warden Marie Sci pier - Easily 20'+ - Absolutely beautiful after Hadlock bay!

This afternoon/evening (Thursday 7/18) at Three Tree Point North: terrible 3-5ft vis all the way down to about 65 feet, then opening up fairly ok to maybe 15-20ft below that. Basically like a night dive at depth. Lots of egg yolk jellies all over the place too.
Re: Viz Reports Thread
Redondo 7/19 for Dive Around the Clock at 830pm viz was about 5-8fsw at just about all depths. Not sure if it was all the divers or just our wonderful summer viz.

Lake crescent 7/25, @ 1300 and 1630 diving the warren and Steele cars. Below 100 viz was craptastic. Viz less than 10ffw and cold too boot. Found the Steele car but missed the warren car. What happened to the wonderful lake crescent viz?
