This is never good. Poor guy.
I know of a similar story concerning a diver and a ship suction - where, while the diver did not die, because of the damage done to the tissues of his arm because of the suction, it had to be amputated.
Having had a Navy dive locker work for me a couple of jobs ago, I know the seriousness precautions taken (by the Navy) to keep divers safe during underhull work. It is really serious business.
