As promised here are some of the pix from Jan 1 night dive with Bob at Redondo. Some not as good as I would have liked but they are cute little guys anyway. And some of the supporting cast

Nice! That lumpie sitting on top of the crab was just tooooo funny ... and a photo op I missed because neither one of my stobes had enough battery left in 'em to fire. Glad you got some shots, since it's not likely something we'll see again ...

I followed the advice given on this board and went searching for the elusive Lumpie. It took a full 1-1/2 hour dive to find two, but we did. I must agree with other posters, the eel grass at Redondo have a ton of life. We also saw a Medusa Jelly, one of those winged slugs, and many sculpin. The Lumpies were the highlight of the dive though. They are also very difficult to photograph. Especially without a strobe ;-) Here is one of my better shots.

The previous one I posted was the size of a golf ball. This tiny fella took a brake on my buddies glove.

That strobe and glove look eerily familiar...lol.

I just noticed that Scubie and I found the exact same lumpy shown in Dusty's 6th picture....located on the exact same rock....four days later.

Yes, I have also noticed that the lumpies are quite territorial ... I've done that dive 17 times now over the past month and am consistently finding them in the same places. I've also noticed that once they reach a certain size, they tend to leave. Several of the biggest ones that I was consistently finding over the past few weeks are no longer around. Either they're leaving to go find another place to live as the eelgrass deteriorates, or perhaps they're leaving inside a bigger fish's belly.

Nice! Lumpies are cute. So far I wasn't lucky enough to see them, but my wife did - while I was diving she went to Monterey Aquarium with kids and they found lumpies there!

I didn't even notice we found the same lumpie as Dusty2. That is pretty cool.

We were at Redondo on New Years Eve too and found the lumpie near the dead crab. I have seen a couple of other posts of photos around that crab, so the territorial aspect looks pretty strong.

I also like the snailfish shots, it looks like a showy snailfish.
