Some WSA mooring buoys being installed TODAY
Nice enough day for it too. The plan from what I hear is that the Pinnacle and Flagpole buoys are being installed today. Sunrise and maybe KVI tomorrow. That will just leave Possession Pt left to install.

They are installing a mooring buoy on the possession point ferry?? That totally rocks!
Re: Some WSA mooring buoys being installed TODAY
Those look great! I hope that they stay around for a long time.

That's relly great. Fromwhat I heard they're pretty heavy duty, built to stand up to the likes of the Mark V.
So I wonder: Does that mean it'd be ok to raft up two or three smaller boats (runabouts/RIBs) and tie them off or is that a no no? I can see the one at the PPF geting some pretty heavy use.

I think that's a judgment call you'll have to make depending on the size of the boats, how many there are, how fast the current is running and wind conditions. They're not light duty buoys, but they won't hold a tanker either.
BTW - I just got an update - the Pinnacle buoy is IN as of a few hours ago, and I guess conditions were REALLY nice - visibility in the water was superb, everything went beautifully, but they couldn't go do Flagpole due to too much wind cropping up. Will have to save that one for another day.

Cool. Curious to see where the pinnacle buoy ended up and if they removed the homemade jobber that was at the (rocky) tippy top.

My understanding is that yes, they would remove the "homemade" jobbie (which I think belongs to Don Coleman) and place the new one in the same location.

I have an anchor
What I need is some rope and chain to tie it too

Rope, anchor and chain is easy to come by, I just need some one with a strong back and a weeke mind to pull it up
Re: Some WSA mooring buoys being installed TODAY
Don doesn't claim any ownership to the "homemade jobber" but he was happy to see it there to avoid having to drop an anchor every time he visited the site. I think the new mooring is a little to the south of the homemade job, I think the old one was moved a little to the north so there was room for two tie-ups. I hope to be up there tomorrow and will give an update if anyone is interested.
Re: Some WSA mooring buoys being installed TODAY
I am delighted that the Pinnacle buoy was installed today, but a bit disappointed that it meant we didn't dive the Pinnacle

I thought it was your homemade jobber all along! Well, I stand corrected. So that's cool there's two now. Wonder what all the Lings thought of the process. They weren't too happy to see us last time we were there. Lotta nesting going on.

Those look awesome. It would be great to have them at some popular shore dive spots as well. I've seen some crazy boat / jet ski behaviour at places like Les Davis and Three Tree North even with dive markers in the water. Maybe having something more official looking would help.
Oh yeah -- and it would save schleping the buoy back up after a second dive.

Unfortunately at around $3500 a pop that'd be kinda cost prohibitive. Also people who behave that way on Jet Skis are usually only encouraged when they see someone laying out a "race course" for themDBrown wrote:Those look awesome. Re: Some WSA mooring buoys being installed TODAY
Tied up to the new buoy on Pinnacle today! Too bad I left my camera in my office....maybe one of the divers today will post a photo. I'll need to get up there later this week to dive it myself to see where it's anchored. It was a little strange today trying to brief the dive an not knowing exactly where the line was anchored.
