DC Dry Glove Ring Tool

Post by cardiver »

Does anybody have one of these that I can borrow? I'm having a hell of a time putting my new gloves on the rings without it!
Thanks!

You can make one, buy a piece of plastic pipe from your local hardware store, with the right ID, the white pipe is better, the black stuff tends to be too stiff.
cut one inch off the end.
Grind a ridge around the center. To keep the ORing on it.
Cut it, and your done.

A tool isn't needed with 2 people. I don't remember the exact technique but helped Matt @ NWSD replace mine. A youtube video showing how to do it with the mystery tool is located here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_JWR09pf8A

When he put mine on originally he said that he had to go in back and do it because, "I didn't want to see what a pita it was".... :yipes:

All I know is that when I replaced mine for the first time it involved a lot of swearing, and the rings being hurled across the room on several occasions. And I'm generally pretty patient.

Seriously ... coupla A-clamps and it's simple. I can change the gloves on my DC rings in about two minutes without any additional tools or help ...

That's what I've been using for 3 years. You still need to install the rings on the gloves.

So you're saying that after 3 years and hundreds of dives, they can't be expected to last forever? Jeez, man...

I got assistance from the lovely and talented Mrs. Sax, who apparently has the grip strength of a longshoreman, because we (she) had no trouble getting them on...

Hold on. I never said anything about the quality of the gloves. All I did was ask if anyone had a TOOL to install the rings.

Hmm... the html tag I used didn't seem to work. Spatman, what's the sarcasm font, again? :questionmarks:

Thanks to Bob for showing me a very simple way to put the rings on my gloves without needing four hands! :smt038

We didn't take any..... It was a very simple process, though.
All you do is fold the glove over the o ring in a small section and get it started on the ring. Next you place one of the clamps on the glove to hold that small section in place. After that you can get about half of the glove on and then clamp with the next a clamp. Once those are in place you can roll the other half of the glove right onto the ring. Done! The first one took me about 2 minutes and the second one took a minute.

Hi Dusty ...

Sorry, no pics. Ron was running a bit late last night and I had to get up early this morning ... so I'm afraid I kinda hurried him along a bit so I could go to bed.

It's a very simple process, and if you're interested in hooking up at Redondo some evening, I can show you in just a few moments ... and then we can go diving ... \:D/
