Wow, that's incredible - especially in 1080p.

definitely a well shot video, but also one done in multiple takes. so the question is whether he did all of that on one breath or not...

He's quoted somewhere as saying that it was done in multiple takes, just to get the shots he wanted.

Not sure if there are any free divers here but...is it normal of a freediver to exhale while ascending? If someone was freediving, there would be no need to exhale while ascending to avoid an overexpansion injury, so the reason behind it would be...? Unless he took a breath from a reg at depth.
Either way, that's a crazy cool video and freediving amazes me.

Re: a little something to take your breath away ...
Well, one does have to exhale before inhaling. A freediver might begin exhaling on the ascent in order to allow drawing air immediately upon reaching the surface. It's not recommended as the safest practice, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happenWASP7000 wrote:Not sure if there are any free divers here but...is it normal of a freediver to exhale while ascending? Re: a little something to take your breath away ...
Well that was my other thought, I just didn't know if it was common practice to exhale before hitting the surface. I've never seen another freediving video where someone did that.

It is just amazing the depths they are getting to.

Look at some of the world record depths, wow. on a single breath, even if you are using a sled to pull you down and bag to get up still that is just over 700'.

This isn't fiction...
The founder of Liquivision recently set a North American freediving record. 100 meters on a single breath, no sled, no bag, no assistance. Blog and pictures here: http://liquivision.com/eric.php
What's really interesting is that after these huge record-setting dives/attempts, the divers often go do O2-deco at 6m/20fsw for a bit using a weight belt and a hang-bar. Obviously they know more about it than I/we do, but I thought that was interesting.

Re: a little something to take your breath away ...
it probably one of the most creative things i've seen in underwater video.... fabulous 'short'... no special effects or wires needed I hope it wins some awards!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The climbing out was just the most outstanding thing!! (if you like climbing that is i guess..)
Maybe the only thing that could have made it more gripping would be to have him climb up, and look up at the sky through the water...start walking towards it.... and then turn around, run towards the edge, and jump back down
but i totally love it....

The Best shot is when the camera is filming in front of him as he dives and falls down.. "That means the camera person had to be in front , falling faster, backwards, while trying to film the free fall, and get him in the shot... Crazy ... Cool film , really captured underwater Base Jumping .. Cool.. Cool..cool ..

Re: a little something to take your breath away ...
The astonishing thing to me is that the camera woman, his wife I believe did the filming while free diving.

Very artistic and dramatic. With the music choice almost spiritual.
Thanks for posting it Bob.
