Turtle Thought Extinct Found in Thailand

Post by Tangfish »

Very cool:
BANGKOK, THAILAND — Thai villagers have caught a river terrapin turtle that was thought to be extinct in the country, a leading conservation group said Wednesday.

The female turtle — known for its egg-shaped shell and upturned snout — was found Jan. 3 in a mangrove canal in Phang Nga province on the country's Andaman coast, said the World Wide Fund for Nature-Thailand. It was the first time the species was found in Thailand in two decades, the WWF said.

Yes, are they now going to make turtle soup out of this FEMALE almost extinct species? Or will there be an attempt to conserve this species? Do you know the rest of the story?

Story says the turtle was on her way to NEST when they caught it, so now they will raise it in captivity!!!

Here's hoping it will nest in captivity. And not just wither and die.

The concern is that if they let her stay wild, she'll be caught and eaten.
