That would be an interesting way to lose your $5,000 camera rig.....

Sockmonkey had a funny run-in with them too... they kept swooping him on his X1 (keying off the yellow that was reflecting off his mask as he looked at it)... he had two close fly-bys and then WHAM!!

It reminds me of the time that a GPO decided he was tired of me taking pictures and tried to take my camera and dry glove ... Im happy I had my camera clipped on a leash or I would have not gotten it back.

What did he do that was wrong? For the most part the divers were on or near the bottom with the exception of when he is taking a picture of the fish school. Other then that he did no touch the manta and it didn't look like he exhaled his bubbles into it's face.

that is the issue people are having. he is clearly not on the bottom when that manta grabs the camera.

one of the comments on the youtube page is a response to that:

"If you notice, there are no other divers around making it obvious that this was not in the arena. He was not swimming up, he was in the water table on his way back filming occasionally as he went. He was not sticking it in the mantas face but being still and shooting the bait ball when the manta came to the light and retracted quickly. It was a freak accident. Travis does not eat anything from the ocean and the marine life is always his concern."
