Hood Canal vis?

Post by dsteding »

So, couldn't get a fourth for the Teal Water charter. Instead me and a buddy are running over to Hood Canal.

Anyone have a recent vis report from over there?

Dove Sund Rock on Monday. Viz was 10-15' once you got below 20-25'.

NOT diving is NOT an option

Hmmm.... question for all you long time Winter divers in the PNW.

Just WHEN does our amazing Winter viz arrive!?!

Is it only when we've had a week or two without rain?

Just wondering...

I'm guessing like December '07 . . . sure hasn't been good this winter.

I went in HC about 6 weeks ago and it was beautiful, like 40 feet or so. Must have been a fluke. I don't remember why I was there.... Hum my memory is fading, but the vis was good. Much better than when I dove in the sound 2 1/2 weeks ago.

I'd put it at 20-30 today, maybe 20 at Jorsted, 30 at Octo Hole. It is nice to get in the water and have it seem crystal clear in the shallows. From the base of the wall at Octo (~45 fsw), you could clearly see past the top and almost see the surface. Lots of ambient light made for some wide-open, really pleasant, dives.

Higlights included a couple wolfies , some aggressive lings on eggs, a egg-yolk jelly, and lots and lots of spot lobsters.

Two nice dives.
