zen moments

Post by mz53480 »

Seems I had one while diving at Sund Rock on Friday.
I was looking around the north wall-- just hovering at around 50fsw.
Then, for about 5 seconds I mentally felt like I was in my typical 'land' environment--nothing unusual, looking around, breathing.
My thoughts: "there's some rocks, there's James & Ron, there's some rockfish"
And then it hit me----oh, I'm underwater. I kind of 'came to' and remembered that I was diving and breathing underwater.
Back to reality--dang!

Anyone else?

Yeah, I can relate... I can only point to a handful of moments in cold water, but they've each been amazing. Comfort in the water, comfort with your equipment, and loving where you're at (at multiple levels) lead to more of these.

And I know it's almost blasphemy to say it on this wonderful cold water board, but I think I've had more of those moments in Bonaire than anywhere else!

I've felt that way when I'm in perfect trim and buoyancy. (Which is much easier in Bonaire) Those are great moments! :supz:
if I could be in that moment with a re-breather on my back, how cool would that be? :smt064

On the warm/cold thing, I have exactly the opposite feeling. I was amazed that my sac rate actually went up when I was most recently in Hawaii and I never felt that amazing sense of being truly at peace in the water.

In the sea whips at Sund Rock is one of those places where I've had zen moments. The sponges at Flagpole is another. I just love to slowly drift motionless, holding my breath so I can take in all the sights and sounds.

Keith, If I don't have a rebreather in less than 5 years, I'll have to get one for my 50th too. Talk about zen moments. For the roughly 30 seconds that I was actually able to become neutral during the pool demo, it was utter bliss.

Funny but I photo'd my dive partner experiencing a "zen moment" last week in Cozumel. ;) Looked really weird watching him doing a drift dive in a "Buddha" pose: He'd drift along using breath/buoyancy to pop over rocks and then back down.
