Lost my best friend yesterday

Few people know that the reason I used Dusty 2 as my screen name is that Dusty was my dog and best friend. He was a Vizsla, (Hungarian pointer) a very special breed that only a few get to know. They are one of the most people oriented dogs I have ever met. Always happy, always ready to play, and just as happy laying with their head in your lap but always within reach. That' s why they are called the velcro dogs. Dusty was an American, Canadian, and international Champion but that was not what made him special. He was first and foremost "Daddy's dog"

Yesterday was his last day with me. His big heart finally could not go on any longer.

For those that have never seen a vizsla here are some of Dusty's pix
How do you pick just one?

My condolences and sympathy... I've had to put 3 of my dogs down in the last 2 yrs... All lived to be ripe old ages though, 14, 17, and 15 yrs... Still have a 14 yr old Border Collie, a 12 yr old Shepard mix and a 4 yr old Beagle so there's still poop-scoopin' to do...

Unfortunately, having to go through this is part of the "cost" of having such wonderful companions in our lives. But those of us (like you and others in this thread) who truly love them wouldn't trade those relationships for anything.

He was sure a beautiful dog, and I hope you take comfort in all the great times you shared.

Oh Dusty, I'm so very sorry for your loss. There's nothing quite like the friendship of a good dog, and I'm quite sure he was as lucky to have you as you were to have him. *hugs*

Vizsla's are an amazing breed. I lost mine about 6 years ago and would love to get another at some point.
Fyi. The Crown Royal ads feature a Vizsla holding the purple bag in it's mouth.

People here may not know this, relatively famous yet anonymous poem...
Take care Dusty
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
