OOOH YEAH, you got it!!! The photophores (little dots) around the eyes, and the shiny skin sort of give it away!
Nice one, John!

Rats. I was going to guess Painted Greenling, but I think Janna's right.

Thanks, Tom!
Tiger Rockfish are solitary critters and like to hang out in their favorite crevasse or crack.
That shot was taken on a dive up at Quadra Island near Campbell River on Vancouver Island. It's one of my favorite places to dive and I highly recommend it to all of you. If anyone goes be sure to tell them that "John Rawlings sent ya!"
My friends Earl and Deb run Abyssal Charters up there, and Earl will show you some GREAT diving! Here's a link:

I'm just flailing now. My last guess is a lingcod.

Nope.....but here's an absolutely MAMMOTH, HUGE hint: there is a photo taken by Scott Boyd of this species in the Seattle PI article today about Hood Canal.

Hmmm.... that wouldn't be a vermillion rockfish by any wild, crazy chance now would it?

I don't think it's a perch, so is it a Copper Rockfish?
(And if it isn't, I'm going to give up eye-guessing and take up knitting.)
